2015 Ford Mustang Safety Tech, Plano, TX – Five Star Ford of Plano
Searching for a new Ford Mustang in Plano, TX? Adding to the list of the number of improvements and innovations in the all-new 2015 Ford Mustang, the engineers at Ford have designed a new airbag design that uses the glove box. The new airbag system uses an inflatable bladder behind the glove box door to provide cushioning for knee impacts for the passenger.
Knee protection using airbags has been available in the past, but due to the strange angle of the dash in cars they had to be large and complex in order to provide sufficient protection. By moving the system closer to the passenger, Ford was able to make a lighter system that works more effectively.
Ford plans on using this type of airbag in other locations on other vehicles, as it is weight saving, and doesn’t require designers to have to design around a complex airbag system. This new technology uses interior panels that are already in the vehicle as airbags that cushion impact in the event of a crash, meaning no more ugly airbag seams for supplemental airbags.
Additional safety improvements are in store for the 2015 Mustang as well, such as four additional airbags, more crash sensors to better respond to an impact, safety belt pre-tensioners and improved exterior lighting for better visibility.
