2017 Ford F-150 Receives New 3.5-Liter EcoBoost Engine
The 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine has been a big hit with customers since being introduced in the 2011 Ford F-150. Ford wanted to make sure they stay ahead of the needs of their customers, and are introducing an all-new 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine and a new 10-speed transmission in the F-150 for the 2017 model year.
The redesigned 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 gives truck buyers an additional 30 lb.-ft. of peak torque compared to the first-generation engine at 450 lb.-ft. or torque. Along with the recently introduced 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6, close to 1 million EcoBoost powered F-150 trucks have been sold, making up around 60 percent of yearly F-150 sales.
Changes made to the new EcoBoost engine to improve power, efficiency and emissions include an all-new dual-direct and port fuel-injection system, new twin turbocharges with lighter components and lighter, more durable components used in the valvetrain.
The new 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 also features Auto Start-Stop as standard equipment, helping drivers save fuel and reduce CO2 emissions by shutting off the engine when the vehicle would typically be idling at a stop. The system was tuned specifically for truck customers, and automatically is disabled when towing or in four-wheel-drive mode.
An all-new 10-speed automatic transmission will be the first ever mass-produced 10-speed available to customers from any major automaker. The new transmission uses advanced materials to save weight and improve fuel efficiency. Adaptive smart shift logic with an improved tow/haul mode makes sure the 2017 F-150 is always in the right gear, giving owners a more engaging driving experience.
