Ford Adaptive Steering Tech, Dallas, Fort Worth, TX – Five Star Ford of Plano
Ready to buy a fun-to-drive new Ford car or truck? Ford wants to make their cars both safer and more fun to drive, so they are launching a technology in their cars called adaptive steering. The new tech improves steering feel at all speeds, and should be available on new cars within the next 12 months.
The system works by changing the steering ratio depending on what the driver and the car are doing, such as parking in a tight space or cruising on the freeway. This will make cars easier to maneuver at lower speeds, easy to control on the highway and fun to drive on a curvy road.
Changing the number of turns it takes to get the front wheels to turn makes a big difference in how your car handles and feels on the road. Having a system where steering response is related to the driving conditions means no longer having to compromise when it comes to the way a car drives.
This adaptive system uses a precision-controlled actuator placed inside the steering wheel. This means that no changes have to be made elsewhere in the steering system, lowering the cost of the system. The electric motor and gearing work together to improve the feel of the steering, no matter the size or type of car it is in.
Many Ford vehicles have already been praised by journalists for their responsive steering, and this new adaptive system look to improve the already solid handling of Ford vehicles. Other manufacturers including BMW and Fiat have systems the can alter steering feel, but they are not a continuously adapting system like Ford has developed.
