Ford and North Texas Ford Dealers Provide $350,000 in Scholarships
Last week, the North Texas Ford Dealers and Ford Motor Company Fund announced they will be awarding nearly $350,000 in scholarships and technology prizes to students from more than 100 high schools in North Texas.
Almost 80 percent of the scholarship recipients plan on pursuing a degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), with most planning on attending universities in Texas. There are many job opportunities in the STEM fields both nationwide and in Texas, which is seeing fast job growth in those fields.
Ford dealers worked with high schools in their communities, awarding up to three scholarships per high school in the expansive North Texas area. The scholarships also conclude the Ford Driving Dreams initiatives for the 2014-2015 school year, which worked to promote reading at an early age and helping high school students graduate on time and head to college.
“The North Texas Ford Dealers are part of the fabric of this community and by working jointly with Ford Fund, this year we have doubled our scholarship investment and are able to help our young people achieve a stronger future,” said Sam Pack, the chairman of the North Texas Ford Dealers. “It’s been exciting to connect with our local high schools and close the school year knowing that Ford will make a college education more accessible for many local students.”
Scholarships for this year were administered by Stars on the Rise, an education initiative by the Greater Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. These scholarships will help make college education a reality for many North Texas youth, especially those in families with financial limitations.
The Ford Motor Company Fund invests more than $8 million each year in scholarships and education initiatives, and funds educational programs like Ford Blue Oval Scholars, Ford Next Generation Learning, Ford College Community Challenge and the Ford STEAM Lab.
