Ford announces new global performance initiative
Ford announced last week that they plan on bringing more than 12 new performance vehicles into their lineup around the world by 2020. Ford is now developing their new performance vehicles as one group, known as the Ford Performance team.
One of the vehicles announced was an all-new Ford Focus RS, which will be available in markets around the world for the first time. Traditionally, the Focus RS has only been available in select markets, like the U.K.
Ford group vice president Raj Nair said the new RS “has to be a no-compromise driver’s car that can deliver exceptional performance on the track when required while providing excellent every day driving.”
The Focus RS will join the growing number of Ford performance vehicles in the U.S., which now includes the Fiesta ST, Focus ST, Shelby GT350 Mustang and F-150 Raptor. Nair said that Ford wants to develop performance vehicles and parts more quickly, and a global effort will help with that.
By continuing development of their EcoBoost engine technology, Ford engineers can create cars that have increased performance, while still being efficient. Improved aerodynamics, lightweight materials and more advanced electronics will help not only new Ford performance vehicles, but Ford’s entire product portfolio.
The new Ford Performance organization is led by Dave Pericak, and will continue in the performance and racing tradition of Ford, which dates back 113 years to Henry Ford himself. Ford says their goal is the same as it was in 1901, to prove its products and technologies against the best in the world.
