Ford Transit Connect Wagon: the #unminivan – Five Star Ford of Plano, TX
This year Ford has completely revamped the Transit Connect, and this time there is more focus on the consumer, instead of just commercial like the last model. For the first time, the Transit connect will be available in five and seven passenger variants with the choice of liftgate or side-hinged doors. There will also be a new top of the line Titanium trim, which adds many luxury features to the Transit Connect.
The new Transit Connect Wagon is being called the #unminivan by Ford due to its unique features. Because it is based on the Ford Focus C-platform, it drives like a car instead of a big minivan. And with roots in the commercial sector, its payload of over 1,200 lbs. puts it in the range of many full-size pickups.
Ford’s six-speed SelectShift automatic transmission is standard, and for 2014 there will be a choice of engines. The standard engine is a 2.5 liter four-cylinder that gets 28 mpg highway, with a 1.6 liter EcoBoost I-4 optional that gets an estimated 29 mpg highway.
Compared to the 2009-2013 models, the interior is greatly improved, especially in Titanium trim with leather seating and available rear view camera. The Transit Connect Wagon has incredible headroom as well, even being named the official vehicle for the “vertically gifted” by Tall Clubs International. Storage is abundant too, with the wagon offering airplane style overhead storage for both driver and passengers, in addition to under-seat storage for rear passengers.
There are many safety features in the new Transit Connect, including ultrasonic sensors in front and back, Ford MyKey technology for young drivers and airbags for all three rows. NHTSA has given the new model a five-star overall safety rating, which is the government’s highest possible rating.
