All-New Ford Super Duty Trucks Shown in Dallas
The all-new 2017 Ford F-Series Super Duty heavy duty truck lineup was unveiled last week in Dallas, with a new high-strength steel frame, military-grade aluminum-alloy body, stronger axles and suspension and class-exclusive technology. These updates make the new Super Duty lineup the most capable ever.
Using advanced materials, Ford reduced the weight of the new Super Duty pickups by up to 350 pounds while increasing strength and durability. The new frame allows for more towing and hauling capability, and the aluminum-alloy body is more dent and ding resistant than the previous steel bodies. Chassis cab models use an open-C-channel frame design for easy aftermarket body upfit and modification.
Ford also added an all-new advanced camera system to the Super Duty trucks to aid with towing, with up to seven cameras around the truck for better visibility and easier hooking up of trailers. A 360-degree camera system gives a bird’s-eye view of the truck, and a factory-available camera can be attached to a trailer to make backing up easier.
The all-new Super Duty is also available with a long list of driver-assist features, such as a Blind Spot Information System, Lane Departure Warning and Adaptive Cruise Control with collision warning and brake support. Ford’s updated SYNC 3 communications and entertainment system is also available, with improved voice-recognition, an easy-to-use interface and an 8-inch touch screen.
The Super Duty features advanced LED lighting throughout, with LED spotlights on the side view mirrors to light up a work site or camp site, quad-beam LED headlamps, LED taillamps and LED cargo box lighting. Other convenient features include a BoxLink accessory system for the cargo box and a remote tailgate lock and release for added security.
Power comes from three available engines, including the second-generation Ford Power Stroke 6.7-liter V8 diesel engine, a 6.2-liter gasoline V8 and a 6.8-liter gasoline V10. The 6.2-liter V8 is paired to the new TorqShift-G transmission for better capability.
