Performance

As mentioned, there are three different engine options. The standard engine is the gas 1.5L EcoBoost®, where you’ll experience up to 181 horsepower and 190 lb-ft of torque. To elevate that power further, select the available gas 2.0L EcoBoost® to see 250 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque.

Then, there is the hybrid option, with two powertrains. The 2.5L hybrid delivers a total system horsepower of 200 HP and 155 lb-ft of torque. The 2.5L plug-in hybrid offers a little more, with a total system horsepower of 221 HP and 155 lb-ft of torque.

You’ll enjoy different fuel economies with each engine, while the hybrids deliver great mileage. The gas models are also efficient, so any option should suffice for your driving needs.

The EPA-estimated fuel economies for the engines are as follows:

  • Hybrid: 44 city/37 highway MPG
  • Plug-in Hybrid: 105 combined MPGe
  • 1.5L EcoBoost®: 28 city/34 highway MPG
  • 2.0L EcoBoost®: 22 city/31 highway MPG

Both the hybrid and the 1.5L gas engines offer you the choice of front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The plug-in hybrid only comes with a front-wheel drive drivetrain, while the 2.0L gas engine only comes with all-wheel drive.

Interior

The interior of the Ford Escape provides a comfortable space for you and your passengers to enjoy the upgraded features. When you’re preparing for a trip, use the 60/40 split-fold second-row seats to use the maximum amount of cargo volume. The gas engine models offer 65.4 cubic feet of cargo space, while the hybrid options offer 60.8 cubic feet.

As you set out on your journey, you’ll appreciate the in-vehicle technology that keeps you entertained. With available SYNC® 3, you can access both Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ to request directions or to play a song. SiriusXM® is available to provide an expansive music and radio show library—all of which can be listened to via the available 10-speaker sound system.

Safety technology is also top of mind. The standard Ford Co-Pilot360™ Technology includes Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, a system designed to detect possible impacts with either a vehicle or a pedestrian and bring the vehicle to a stop when called for. Safety upgrades include the available Active Park Assist 2.0 system, which can be a great help when parallel parking.

Trim Levels

The Ford Escape has the following trim levels:

All trims above the S base level offer hybrid and plug-in hybrid options. Each level has its own interesting set of features to improve upon your comfort. For example, the base level comes with cloth front seats, with manual adjustment. In the highest level, Titanium, you’ll find power-adjustable front seats, with available leather upholstery.
You’ll also see technology upgrades as you move up the levels. In the base S trim and the SE, there’s a 4.2-inch instrument cluster. In the SEL trim, you can upgrade to a 12.3-inch full digital instrument cluster, which comes standard in the Titanium trim level.
