Five Ford & Lincoln Vehicles Receive Top Honors in J.D. Power Study

Ford Motor Company ranked No. 2 across all automakers for the second straight year in the annual J.D. Power Initial Quality Study. Ford also earned its best overall score in the report’s 32-year history for 2018. Five Ford and Lincoln vehicles earned segment awards for initial quality, more than any other automaker.

Part of Ford’s success comes from steadily improving the quality of its audio, connectivity, entertainment and navigation technology with SYNC 3. The latest system has earned praise for its ease of use, and is available on nearly Ford and Lincoln vehicle. SYNC 3 continues to be improved with every new update, which often adds new features.

“Customers want a vehicle that keeps them connected whether they’re going places or just out enjoying a drive,” said Jim VanSlambrouck, Ford’s Director of Quality for The Americas. “Our improving quality scores show we are delivering smart vehicles for a smart world that are also easy to use.”

Ford has also improved in other areas in recent years, including categories like exterior quality, seating, driving experience, feature control displays, interior and air conditioning. Nine vehicles were in the top three for their respective segments, and five models received top honors: Ford Expedition, Ford Mustang, Ford Super Duty, Lincoln Continental and Lincoln MKC.

The number of problems per 100 vehicles has been reduced compared to last year, and at a rate faster than the industry average. The Lincoln brand moved up to third place among all premium vehicle brands.

Ford Updates the F-150 Raptor for 2019

New updates are coming to the 2019 F-150 Raptor, giving it even better off-road capability, new safety and convenience features and upgraded seats. New features allow the driver to focus on the trail with improved performance and increased comfort.

Class-exclusive FOX 3.0 Internal Bypass shocks with Live Valve technology were developed in conjunction with Ford Performance. The new shocks can continuously adjust damping in real-time, maximizing comfort, improving handling and helping to prevent bottoming out.

“Not many trucks need sensors to detect when you are midair,” said Hermann Salenbauch of Ford Performance. “Raptor sets the dampers to full stiffness to help smooth shock performance as the truck lands.”

The all-new Trail Control system helps drivers navigate challenging trails more easily. It works like cruise control but for low-speed, rugged terrain, and can be set at speeds from 1 mph up to 20 mph depending on trail conditions.

All-new Recaro sport seats have better support and are more comfortable, with generous bolstering in the seat back and cushion. They also feature blue Alcantara inserts and accent stitching, inspired by the Ford GT supercar. New exterior colors available include Ford Performance Blue, Velocity Blue and Agate Black.

Waze Navigation App Comes to Ford Vehicles with SYNC 3

The world’s largest community-based traffic and navigation app, Waze, is now available in Ford vehicles equipped with SYNC 3. The popular navigation service uses Ford SYNC AppLink to project the app directly onto the touchscreen from a USB-connected iPhone.

Waze provides real-time traffic and navigation information and can help drivers avoid traffic jams and potential hazards on the road ahead. SYNC AppLink allows drivers to easily find efficient routes, locate cheaper fuel prices and report traffic accidents using the touch screen or with voice commands.

“Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for people to access the smartphone features, apps and services they care about most in the car, without having to pick up their device,” said Don Butler of Ford Motor Company. “With Waze, our customers get the benefits they’re accustomed to with the added luxury of experiencing them on a bigger screen.”

In order to use Waze in your Ford vehicle, you’ll need to have SYNC 3 with software version 3.0 or greater, and have iOS 11.3 installed on your iPhone along with the Waze app. If you have any questions about how to get set up with Waze, please contact us at Sam Pack’s Five Star Ford of Plano and we can help get you connected.
